  • Dr. Laura A. Gillespie, affectionately known to most of her patients and their families as "Dr. G," has more than 20 years of expertise in the field, and is the medical director of Eating Disorder Medical Specialists of Cleveland, LLC (EDMSC). Dr. Gillespie received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed pediatric residencies at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital. At Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital, Dr. Gillespie specifically focused on Adolescent Medicine and eating disorder medical management, where she was able to receive extraordinary exposure to patients with eating disorders, and which ultimately led to her decision to continue her fantastic training at that facility. Dr. Gillespie worked in the department of Adolescent Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for approximately six years as an attending physician.

Dr. Gillespie continues to specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and their associated medical complications in children, adolescents, and young adults, and has extensive experience working with patients in the Inpatient, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and outpatient settings. She decided to work in a more intimate, private practice environment where patients would get state-of-the-art treatment in a more comfortable setting.

Dr. Gillespie was also hired by the Eating Recovery Center (ERC), which is a very large and well-respected Eating Disorder Center that provides all levels of care, including Inpatient treatment, Residential care, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and outpatient care all over the country. The closest ERC location to Cleveland is in Cincinnati, OH, where Dr. Gillespie serves as the medical physician, working one day per week on site, caring for the patients in PHP. (Currently, because of COVID-19, while she remains on staff, she is not consulting at ERC because it requires high-risk air travel.)

Dr. Gillespie has received numerous awards and recognitions and is consistently named as a "Top Doctor" by Cleveland Magazine. She has also been recognized as a "Best Doctor in America" by U.S. News and World Report and a Healthgrades "Honor Roll" physician. Vitals.com has awarded Dr. Gillespie a "Patients' Choice Award," as well as a "Compassionate Doctor Recognition" award in 2020. Dr. Gillespie has also been recognized for her outstanding dedication and commitment to the treatment and prevention of eating disorders by The Eating Disorder Network, in conjunction with The Fairmount Center for the Arts, where she received the "Nourishing the Artist Within" award.

Dr. Gillespie maintains board-certification through the American Board of Pediatrics. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as the Academy for Eating Disorders, for which she attends their international conference on a yearly basis.

Dr. Gillespie is currently accepting and welcoming new patients.

"The scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity.

    That's it.

It cannot measure character, beauty, talent, purpose, possibility, strength, or love."

Let's work together to help you focus on the latter!
